Revolutionizing Mobile Device Repair Education: The Launch of the First Postsecondary Certification Program in Partnership with MCC, CTIA, and iFixAmerica

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the first ever postsecondary education mobile device repair certification program in partnership with Metropolitan Community College, CTIA WISE Certification, and iFixAmerica. The MCC Mobile Device Repair Academy is scheduled to launch in the spring quarter at MCC Digital Express, the College’s state-of-the-art, digital library located on the Fort Omaha Campus.

The academy is a credentialing program that includes a one-week Boot Camp and an eight-week internship. Upon successful completion of the Boot Camp, participants will earn two Wireless Industry Service Excellence (WISE) certifications. The WISE Certification program, established in 2019 by CTIA, the wireless industry association, provides standards for employee training and best practices for mobile device repair, ensuring a predictable, high-quality repair experience for consumers.

The noncredit program will provide an at-cost resource to the greater Omaha community, addressing the significant market need for mobile device repair. With about 50 million mobile device screens damaged each year, this program offers valuable training for students to enter a technology career with exceptional growth potential and access to low-cost device repair for the community.

During the internship, participants will receive hands-on training fixing broken devices and gaining customer service skills at Reboot Central, the technology support service desk at Digital Express, staffed by MCC students who have completed the Boot Camp and earned WISE Level 1 and 2 certifications. Repairs will be supervised by WISE-authorized training administrators with iFixOmaha, an independent mobile device repair shop with three Omaha locations and regional expansion goals.

The internship component of the program makes it truly unique, providing immediately employable workers to the regional workforce. By the completion of the program, students will demonstrate the technical skills and the soft skills needed to work in a professional mobile device repair shop.

We are proud to be partnering with MCC and WISE-Authorized Administrator iFixAmerica, to introduce this first-of-its-kind academic training for the repair industry. The investment of iFixAmerica in administering the program is a crucial component, ensuring the availability of properly skilled technicians to meet the growing demand in the industry.

We invite you to join us in this exciting endeavor and take advantage of the opportunity to learn the latest mobile device repair techniques and earn industry-recognized certifications.
